An estimated 143 million US consumers could be affected by a cybersecurity attack carried out against Equifax, one of the largest credit-reporting companies.

There has been no evidence of unauthorized activity in the Equifax credit reporting database at this time. The information that may have been compromised includes names, Social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and in some cases driver’s license numbers. The hackers also got access to credit card numbers for over 209,000 consumers.

A few things you should know

  • Be extra careful about emails and links
  • Change passwords frequently
  • Check credit cards and other accounts

Go to Equifax.com to see if your personal information was potentially impacted. However, Equifax is mailing out a letter to all of those potentially affected.
